Where did it all go wrong?

The e4x generation of BMW’s 3 series, the e39 5 series … both classic cars! Every car produced by BMW in the late 1990′s was widely accepted by the masses as beautiful. The Z8 & Z3 were both so breathtaking & popular that they became Bond-cars featured in two different James Bond movies.

What we know is that Chris Bangle played some role in the design of these breathtaking beauties. Cars like the e39 BMW M5 and e46 BMW M3 have already become cult-classics and will ultimately join their siblings amongst some of the most sought after cars ever made by BMW.

Why is it then, that a man who was tied to such outstanding vehicles in the past is now designing the ghastly BMWs of today? What started out as the perfect balance of beauty and muscle has turned into a chiseled and harsh look with key lines colliding and flying off in different directions.

Take, for example, the rear end of the new 7-series. A perfectly acceptable flowing trunk that somehow had a squashed squared-off zit added to the top of it. The X6? WTf? What’s the point of this vehicle? It’s not quite a coupe, not quite a SUV.. sorry S – AAAAAA – V, not quite a sedan. Definitely not a truck. What is this car? can you please help us out here?

Another prime example are the e92 and e93 BMW 3 series. This car has a hood that appears to go on forever – Rivaling the hood lines of a 1970′s Cadillac ElDorado. But the funny thing is – it’s not even that BIG! It LOOKS like you could put a full living room set complete with arm chairs and a coffee table on it, but in reality you’d have a hard time fitting a love seat on it.
